FORMICA LIGNA
WOOD SURFACING
Q. What is Formica Ligna wood surfacing?

A. Formica Ligna is real wood laminated to a phenolic core which provides the ease of fabrication of high pressure laminates with the warmth of real woodgrains.

Q. What are appropriate applications for Formica Ligna?

A. Polyurethane finished Formica Ligna is designed for light duty horizontal or vertical use only in dry interior applications. Wall panels, reception areas, retail fixtures and accessory furniture are good applications. Unfinished Formica Ligna can be finished by the fabricator for higher wear horizontal applications.

Q. Can Formica Ligna be postformed?

A. Unfinished and polyurethane finished Formica Ligna in the ALP grade can be postformed, but at a lower temperature than conventional high pressure laminate (HPL), 288 degrees F (142 degrees C) (gray Tempilaq). ALN grade material is non-forming.

Q. What cores are suitable for Formica Ligna?

A. Medium density fiberboard (MDF) and 45# density, industrial grade particleboard are recommended. Do not apply Formica Ligna to plywood, drywall (gypsum), plaster, concrete, solid lumber or underlayment particleboard.

Q. What adhesives should be used to bond Formica Ligna?

A. Two types of adhesives can be used, PVAc (polyvinyl acetate white glue) and contact adhesives.

Q. Can conventional HPL tools be used with Formica Ligna?

A. Yes.

Q. How should Formica Ligna be cleaned?

A. Polyurethane finished product can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

Q. Will Formica Ligna fade?

A. With any natural wood, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided as it can produce color change. Under normal light conditions, the product performs equal to or better than conventional veneers.
